Jake Chambers officially launched Red Door Church in September, 2010. Located in the College Area near San Diego State University, a significant percentage of his church is comprised of and ministers to college students. Why plant near a college campus with transitory students in mind? “I felt like students are being preached to every day,” says Jake. “But the things that are preached are messages like ‘go party,’ and ‘your future career will save you' but nobody is preaching the gospel.” With SDSU also making the nation's list of highest rates of STDs and date rape per capita(not to mention the largest-ever drug bust – 70+ arrests in 2007), it was clear to Jake that it was a place in desperate need of the gospel.

In 2005, I attended my first Acts 29 boot camp in Edwardsville, IL. I had never been to Edwardsville. I had only recently heard of Acts 29. I definitely wasn’t interested in church planting. I was 17 years into my career in education, working as a principal in St. Louis. I had no formal theological training and had no knowledge of or interest in the church-planting movement taking place around me.
I was only at the boot camp (I thought) because my family and I had started attending a new church called The Journey in St. Louis. We have replanted a small church called Ramilies Road Church, just off the famous Penny Lane (the Beatles wrote a song about it) in Liverpool, UK.
Briefly describe the story of how you came to re-plant
Ramilies Road Church was planted in the early 1930s, through the prayers of two faithful men who wanted to see a Gospel witness around the Penny Lane area of Liverpool. The church saw a time of real growth and vibrance. Sadly, from about the 1980s, things began to decline. In 2008 the church was in a situation where (in their words) ‘they were burying more than they were baptising” and “last one alive turn the lights off”.
