Meet Chris and Jen Atwell - Mid-Atlantic Regional Director
- Chris Atwell
- Jul 14, 2011
- Series: Church Planter Interviews
20 minutes.
Chris Atwell, Acts 29 member and pastor of Portico Church in Charlottesville, Viriginia, recently became the Regional Director of the newly formed Mid-Atlantic Region of Acts 29 (covering Viriginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C.).
The Atwells planted Portico seven years ago with Acts 29.
Acts 29 staffer, Adriel Ifland, sat down with Chris and his wife Jen in Vail, Colorado, to get to know them a little more and ask a few questions about their experiences in church planting.
In this interview:
- Fighting ego and entitlement as a church planter (paying careful attention to your life and doctrine)
- Being faithful even if we are called to a small platform
- Thankfulness, praise and preaching the Gospel to yourself to battle ego
- studying Scripture – feeding yourself vs. feeding others
- Sermons: first for the preacher, then for the people
- Jen – what she's learned about "pastoring" her husband
- Advice: before you plant, count the cost
More content: Chris wrote an article on leadership multiplication, and has more content on the Acts 29 Network's site here.
If you're interested in planting in the Mid-Atlantic region and curious about Acts 29, please apply and connect by contacting Portico Church (visit their website or call 434.296.0033).
