Lying at the very heart of the Church's identity and mission, the gospel is not only good news to weary sinners, it is the very power of God (cf. Rom. 1:16). As Luther says in his Commentary on Galatians, "This truth of the gospel . . . is also the principal article of all Christian doctrine, wherein the knowledge of all godliness consists. Most necessary it is, therefore, that we should know this article well, teach it unto others, and beat it into their heads continually." For these reasons no quality is more essential for developing leaders than a firm grasp of the gospel and its implications for life and ministry.
