Planter Profile:

Briefly describe your story of your call to plant a church.

In the context of potentially going on staff with a church I was looking forward to working with God made it clear that His heart for me was not to just be a part of something, but to start something from scratch. The story is long and intricate. I would be more than happy to share it with you. Call or email me.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in planting your church (and/or currently facing)?

Casting vision in such a way that people owned it for themselves.

How did you become involved with Acts 29? What have been the biggest benefits of being in the network?

Through a friend on staff at a church already affiliated with the network. To date, the biggest benefit I have had has been spending the last number of months getting to know my coach, who was also one of the guys who assessed me. He's a great guy, a great teacher, and one of the most humble servants I have ever met.

What advice do you have for men who are wrestling with the decision to plant?

Be sure of your calling. Make sure your wife is sure of your calling. Don't do it if He's not calling you to.

How do you pastor your family?

I love Jesus before I love them or the church.
I love them before I love the church.
I love the church last.

I tend to be introspective, so I purposefully try to involve my wife at times in conversation over spiritual matters I am wrestling with or contemplating. My wife and I generally connect spiritually through conversation. We're not that ideal couple that does devotionals every night before going to bed. I often wonder if that couple even exists. It sure isn't us.

Outside of the Bible, what is the most helpful book you have read for church planting?

I started small with a close inner circle of people I could trust. For a number of months very few people knew what God was planning and working out inside of me. Over time we developed a small group which grew, and held a series of pre-launch services.

What are some examples of God's grace that you have seen in your life and/or the life of your church?

He has called me His own. He now allows me to be a spokesman for Him. He allowed me to marry a girl that looks so much more like Jesus than I do. He has brought great people around His vision for what Woodlands Point Community Church is called to be. He has provided all that we've needed at just the right times for us to get off the ground and be sustained as a community.

How can we pray for you?

Wisdom and discernment to be a shepherd of people that reflects the heart and character of God.

What is your philosophy of community in your church and what does that look like practically in your church? Of evangelism?

Community is the means to effective mission. Mission acts as the organizing principle of our community. We seek to cultivate environments of encouragement, rebuke, training and sending out for the purpose of advancing the Gospel within the context of community.

Practically, we ask that each group organize themselves around a cause, task, purpose or mission that draws them out into the community at large with the Gospel.
