Briefly describe your story of your call to plant a church

God called me to plant The Door Church after praying one evening for a clear vision to plant or not to plant. He pressed two words on my brain the entire night "The Door", "The Door", "The Door". I got up thinking I ate some bad food because it was weird evening, but as I read my Bible that morning I was in John chapter 10 it was all about Jesus proclaiming to be the door to eternal life and salvation. In short, our hope at TDC is very simple, we want to proclaim the purity of the gospel which is: it is all about Jesus.

How did you build up your core? What advice would you give to guys in the core-stage?

I would say the best way you can build your core -- is to walk and disciple men and to cast vision of what God has placed in your heart to all that will hear.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in planting your church (and/or currently facing)?

I would say it is to be patient. It is easy to get ahead of yourself and really where the church is at and you end up making a mess of things. God's timing is always better and I would say realize that church planting is a process and time is on your side.

How did you become involved with Acts 29? What have been the biggest benefits of being in the network?

I got involved with Acts 29 through The Village Church. I also met several other A29 planters in the area that I respected. I really enjoyed the assessment process and developing relationship with other men that are in the midst of the church planting battle.

What advice do you have for men who are wrestling with the decision to plant?

I would say -- look to your family and see if: 1. is your family in order at home 2. pray with your wife about this decision because it effects the entire family

Also church planting is an idol for many -- so I have counseled several guys that you should not plant unless you are okay with it failing. God does what he wants and church planting in the end will not satisfy you but it can destroy you.

What’s the most important thing you’d want to share with a new church planter?

That God is good and he is working more through your ministry than you can visible see at times.

How do you pastor your family?

I constantly have to check myself here. My first ministry is to my wife and kids. So I lead them by God's grace being the same guy that they see in the pulpit and at home. And putting their needs above the churches which I have to ask continuously how am I doing in this area.

Outside of the Bible, what is the most helpful book you have read for church planting?

Mission, Vision, Values of Church

Restoring lives with the Gospel for God's glory

What are some examples of God's grace that you have seen in your life and/or the life of your church?

God has been gracious to TDC and here are a few ways I have seen God's tangible grace in the process of planting:

1. God has brought strong leaders around The Door which has allowed the planting process to be a joy
2. We have seen people come to Jesus and are about to baptize 7 people
3. God has provided a facility for us to meet in through his grace and favor with other churches in town
4. We have continually grown since we planted

How can we pray for you?

I would love prayer for wisdom and that we continually stay humble so that the power of Christ may rest upon us
