Briefly describe your story of your call to plant a church

The Crossing Church began as a small group of neighbors who got together in our home in early 2011. The group grew as friends wanted to join in. The heartbeat of this group and the other small groups that multiplied from the original one has been Jesus. We have wanted to reach our community with the gospel and show them that God wants a real, growing relationship with us. Our core team began meeting in late spring of 2011. We will launch this fall.

How did you build up your core? What advice would you give to guys in the core-stage?

We believe the gospel is relational. So everything we did was based around that.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in planting your church (and/or currently facing)?

It's all a wonderful challenge. And we want to follow God where His Spirit leads, not ask him to come behind us and bless our plans.

How did you become involved with Acts 29? What have been the biggest benefits of being in the network?

I got connected to Acts 29 through my friend, Chan Kilgore. As I began to feel called to plant a church, he was a great friend, mentor, and pastor. He helped me connect through our cohort group that meets monthly.

What advice do you have for men who are wrestling with the decision to plant? 

Keep wrestling. Keep waiting on God. We waited ten years for the right time and place. If it is what God wants, he will lead you.

What’s the most important thing you’d want to share with a new church planter?   

It's all about Jesus- for you, your family, your church, and your community.

How do you pastor your family?

I love Jesus first, then my wife, and then my kids. We fight to keep most of evenings clear for time together. We love to have family dinners at home around the table together.

What are some examples of God's grace that you have seen in your life and/or the life of your church?

I have seen God grow and mature Kristen's and my faith in Christ in ways I don't know how He otherwise would have done if not for planting a church. We have become so dependent in so many ways on God's grace.

Please pray that I personally stay close to Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.
