Briefly describe your story of your call to plant a church
I moved to St. Louis back in 2002. After a long journey we started Redeemer Church in September of 2008. We now have a church built around the gospel and life-change.
How did you build up your core? What advice would you give to guys in the core-stage?
We built our core through lots of 1-2-1 meetings and vision casting. I would advise trying to meet as many people in your context as possible.
What were the biggest challenges you faced in planting your church (and/or currently facing)?
The biggest challenges we are facing right now is a 'family' idol that exists in our community. People are so busy with activities for their kids that they often sacrifice time with the church. Confronting this issue is our greatest obstacle right now.
How did you become involved with Acts 29? What have been the biggest benefits of being in the network?
Some friends of mine were connected to the network and I wanted to be involved. The greatest benefit for me so far was the assessment. I was really challenged and it was one of the best things that happened to me in preparing me to become a pastor and a leader.
What advice do you have for men who are wrestling with the decision to plant?
Make sure you and your wife are on the same page. Go get some counseling if need be. Church planting is harder than anything you will ever do.
How do you pastor your family?
By spending quality time with them, repenting in front of them, praying with them and encouraging them to grow in holiness.
Outside of the Bible, what is the most helpful book you have read for church planting?
Decision Making and the Will of God by Gary Freisen
How can we pray for you?
Pray for my leadership and that I will keep our church on mission.

Mission, Vision, Values of Church
Our mission is to engage the families of our culture with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.
What is your philosophy of community in your church and what does that look like practically in your church? Of evangelism?
We believe in small groups. We ask everyone who is a part of the church to be involved in a small group. The goal of our small groups is to process sermons, pray together, share in fellowship. Most groups meet 2-4 times a month.
What are some examples of God's grace that you have seen in your life and/or the life of your church?
Our church has been though so much and God's grace has allowed me to stay excited about where we are, God's grace has kept the people focused on the cross and not man, and God's grace has been impacting people in such a powerful way that we have seen some amazing stories of transformation.
