Briefly describe your story of your call to plant a church

I have been pastoring for 20 years and when we decided to become multi-campus I began pastoring our West Campus in 2008.

How did you build up your core? What advice would you give to guys in the core-stage?

Finding locations
Building a unified Core Group

What were the biggest challenges you faced in planting your church (and/or currently facing)?

One of the biggest challenges we faced in the beginning (and are currently facing) is how to best contextualize the gospel to those we’re trying to reach. We’ve succeeded at times and failed at others. But overall, walking the fine line between promoting robust biblical-theology and being relevant to lost people is tricky business. We still ask ourselves regularly: how can we be doing this better?

How did you become involved with Acts 29? What have been the biggest benefits of being in the network?

Had a passion for church planting and realized A29 had similar values and passion.

The benefits have been networking and learning from other like minded men in ministry who share a similar passion for the gospel.

What advice do you have for men who are wrestling with the decision to plant?

It requires diligence, perserverance and balance.

Make sure your wife is with you.

Make sure it is about the people God is calling you to and not about your own junk of wanting to be the man or start something for your glory.

How do you pastor your family?

Serve my wife as Christ served the church. Model authentic life of a follower of Jesus Christ. Pray and read bible together and engage in serving our community.

Outside of the Bible, what is the most helpful book you have read for church planting?

Church Planter, Patrick

Mission, Vision, Values of Church

"To Lead Unchurched People to Become Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ."

Values: Community, Authenticity, Relevance, Excellence, Sustainability

What is your philosophy of community in your church and what does that look like practically in your church? Of evangelism?

Community, life on life discipleship, service and relationships is the primary way we see people grow as followers of Jesus Christ. Everyone who comes in knows that their next step is to engage in a small group community where they can be known, discipled, cared for, held accountable and challenged to serve together.

Evangelism flows out of intentional, authentic relationships where we serve others, share the gospel and call them to respond.

What are some examples of God's grace that you have seen in your life and/or the life of your church?

Unified community of people on mission pouring into the lives of others...lives being changed by the gospel...healthy leadership and followership

How can we pray for you?

Pray for our church as we begin meeting in a new location Jan. 2011 that God would use us to reach our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
