Church Profile: Red Sea Church

23 months ago Red Sea launched as a church in a favorite local pub (bar) located one block from my house. From that day on we have never stopped feeling like God’s chosen community of ragtag urban missionaries. We have been called to poorest neighborhood of Portland (the most unchurched city in the United States). We know that God has always had a plan for our spiritual development and given us an idea of what He would soon form among our Biblical community but we never really knew just how God would pull this mission off. So, with out further adeu this is what our great God has been doing in the “hood” of Portland, Oregon.

God filled the pub full of unbeilvers and many were baptised. Soon it was time for us to leave and move forward into a new space and God sent an NBA player from my past to help pay for a new building….we bought our first building at the one year mark and God filled that up and we overflowed and opened a second service. This building was located one block from “Heroin Alley” and so we began to see the addicts come in and be saved. Many from our church have entered into a 10 month Christ-centered treatment center.

With the “come just as you are” mentality we began to see the sick pour in by the droves. We soon found out that 2 services was burning out our “healthy” servants and meanwhile our children’s ministry was over 50 in a small basement so, we began to pray.

With a little over 1 month to go before our church turns 2 yrs. old, God has brought us a 400 seat auditorium, a place for 80 children, another 5,000 s.f. building and land to grow into!  Additionally we opened a cafÈ in the middle of our depressed neighborhood and are now building leaders to disciple the many new christians!!! All of these buildings and ministries are funded by new christians that are in the city with the highest unemployment rate in the country right now! We are under constant attack here in Portland…would you please pray for Imago Dei and Red Sea today. The gap is not as wide today because of our gracious Father’s choice to use us in this mission.

Meanwhile, my wife Daisy has given birth to our 6th baby. His name is Moses Freedom Garman. He was 10 lbs. 2 oz. and 21 inches long. The slavery of our Harvest is finding “Mo Freedom” through “The Seed” of Jesus Christ. We couldn’t be more excited about the suffering and persecution the advesary is trying to hold us down. May all of the A29 churches be a menace to Hell. Peace Brothers, Pastor G
