"All the churches that were planted by Paul were planted because Paul was ... explicit in preaching the gospel ... a number of contemporary churches think it's insightful to quote 'preach the gospel and use words if necessary' but this has no connection with what we find in the life of Paul."
In 2009, Western Europe Acts 29 Director, Steve Timmis, taught two sessions at the London Boot Camp on "How to Plant a Church." In How to Plant a Church - Part 1, Timmis taught that the book of Acts is a church planting narrative. Tyler Jones is Regional Director of the East Coast for Acts 29, and planter of Vintage21 Church in Raleigh, NC. He spoke on balance for the church planter at the Orlando boot camp in February – and we just posted the audio. The following is adapted from the beginning of his talk.
Got balance?
Our culture is permeated with the concept of ‘balance.’ I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this balance. Not in college, not when I got married, and not since I planted eight years ago. Everywhere I turn, people pray for balance, we say balance is what we need, and you’re judged if you don’t have balance.
I went to Scripture and started looking for balance, and what I found was Christ saying “pick up your cross and follow me,” and I’m ...

Bruce Wesley, lead pastor of Clear Creek Community Church in Houston, Texas, spoke on "The Enduring Legacy" of a church planter. He talked about "wells" that church planters need to avoid turning to as well as the rhythms of grace to protect our enjoyment of God.
If your goal is an enduring legacy, ask yourself two questions: Will you last? Will your work last?
As a church planter, your walk with God will happen while Rome is burning and an angry mob is at your door. You will walk with God because you choose every day to act in a way where you can be acted upon by God. If you don’t do this, you will flame out and cave in. In 2 Timothy 2, Paul writes, “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Jesus Christ.” This strength is something that is done to ...

By Pastor Scott Thomas, Acts 29 Director
Every young man that considers church planting asks the question, Am I a Church Planter? It is the question I asked myself before planting a church. It is the question we ask every man who submits himself to our Acts 29 assessment process to be a lead planter in our network. Many times he is depending on our assessment process to confirm his calling.
Not all churches have a vision for church planting and few have insight into what a church planter looks like. Our church leaders should be able to spot a church planter and then send him to plant as soon as he is ready.I did a survey of pastors associated with a church planting movement in 52 countries of the world and asked them to describe the characteristics of a church planter. In order, ...

This is your last chance to sign up for the Church Planting Boot Camp in Dallas. Read over the information and sign up to attend Depth Church Planting Conference at The Village Church (Matt Chandler is the pastor) Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 10:00 AM - Thursday, November 20, 2008, 5:00 PM.
Whether you are interested to explore the exciting journey of planting a church, to discern a call to plant or to hear the great lineup of speakers, we present this Boot Camp for a couple of days to challenge you to go deep into the heart and mission of the gospel. To go deep means that we look honestly into our hearts and examine the sins that may deter our passion for Jesus Christ. It means that we apply the gospel of redemption by confessing, repenting and reconciling those ...
