The Church Planter's Marriage

…Two years after we planted Clear Creek Community Church, I recognized a feeling of emotional detachment from my wife and kids. I don’t remember where the question came from, but I asked myself, “What if my wife and children never feel loved by me?” I thought about how much of a failure I would be if I planted a church successfully, but I did not know how to love my wife and kids in a way that they felt cherished, protected and connected to me. Recently Dave Bruskas, Pastor of the Albuquerque Campus of Mars Hill Church (formerly City on a Hill Church), answered some questions for Scott Thomas about his marriage and raising four daughters as a pastor. Dave and his wife Kara have four daughters, ages 11 to 19, and it is clear to everyone who meets this family how much joy they have in serving the Lord together. In this video, Scott asks Dave: How would you describe a healthy marriage? How does Kara help you not ...

Equipping Pastors: C.J. Mahaney on Leadership and Vacations

Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away. The holidays are upon us. We are posting this early to be a help to you as you finalize holiday plans and before they have commenced.    By C.J. Mahaney Full article available here. Reproduced with permission.   What a family looks like—what a family experiences on a vacation—is largely determined by the father’s attitude and leadership prior to and during the vacation. Some fathers charge into a vacation at a place like Disney World committed to visiting every venue, seeing every show, and experiencing every ride. Every moment and detail has been planned with military precision as the father leads his wife and children on the long-awaited mission. But by noon the first day, the ...
